Cox has two older sisters, Dottie and Virginia and an older brother Richard, Jr. Her parents divorced in 1974. She grew up with her mother and her stepfather Hunter Copeland in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Cox attended Mountain Brook High School and went on to study architecture and interior design at Mount Vernon College for Women. After one year in college, she dropped out to pursue a modeling career after being signed by the Ford modeling agency in New York City.

Barton's rich party girl character, Marissa Cooper, recently got killed off in a car accident in the TV show, which debuted in 2003 in the United States.

Mathew Perry - Celebrity NewsLast January, 2006, Variety magazine announced that Matthew Perry had been cast in Aaron Sorkin's new dramatic television program "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" which will be airing on NBC for its 2006-2007 television season. Perry plays the role of Matt Albie who is a former writer for Studio 60 who is asked to return when executive producer Wes Mendell is fired. Perry previously worked with Sorkin in the TV drama "The West Wing" as Associate White House Counsel Joe Quincy. Perry also started filming "Numb", a comedy drama about a depressed writer which is scheduled for release in 2007.
